Artificial trees, roots and organic forms

An artificial tree is a sculpture that has to look like living nature while working as a structure. We make single trunks and tree-form columns, branches over a ride route, carved roots growing out of rock, boughs forming a pergola and whole sections of "ruined forest" in themed zones. Such forms bring scale, shade and story where a real tree will not grow or survive: indoors, beside a ride track, on a concrete plaza, next to water.

We use the same systems as for sculpture and artificial rockwork. Load-bearing capacity comes from a steel structure and reinforcement, lighter sections are built on EPS/XPS cores, and the surface is built up in hand-sculpted cementitious and polymer-modified layers. Bark, grain, cracks, knots and erosion are carved by hand, and colour is applied in layers: base coat, glazes, dry brushing and patina, so the wood looks convincing up close and from afar.

Examples from our projects: giant deadwood forms and carved roots along the family Deadwood Drift track at Hossoland, children's track scenery with a giant tree in the Fish Market District, decorative roots at the Stone Guardian in Park Ogrodzieniec, trunk-form columns at the entrance to a private house and a pergola of trunks and boughs in a barbecue area in Gothenburg.

A tree working outdoors has to withstand weather, frost, water and contact with visitors. That is why we agree fixing points, loads, drainage and maintenance access from the start, and on projects with lighting, mist or sound we route the installations inside the form so they remain accessible for inspection. The service is for amusement parks, zoos, hotels, restaurants, playgrounds and municipalities, as well as private clients who want an extraordinary feature in their garden or interior.
